The Blues have a shot at NHL glory Sunday night when the host the Bruins in Game 6 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.
Holding a 3-2 series lead, St. Louis can clinch its first ever Stanley Cup with a victory over Boston. The Blues escaped Boston with a 2-1 win in Game 5 after a controversial no-call led to the game-winning goal for St. Louis.
However, this isn’t an unfamiliar position for the Bruins. In 2011, Boston trailed Vancouver 3-2 in the Cup Final before winning Game 6 at home and Game 7 on the road to win its first Stanley Cup since 1972.
While the makeup of this year’s team is much different, staple players like captain Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Brad Marchand were all on that 2011 Boston team that shocked Vancouver.
The Blues will be without Ivan Barbashev as he serves a one-game suspension for his hit in Game 5 on Boston’s Marcus Johansson. After playing Game 5 with a broken jaw, Chara is expected to play in Game 6 as well.
