Hawks add big Ned Reeves to the list on season’s eve

Hawthorn added 20-year-old ruckman Ned Reeves to their rookie list on the eve of Friday's deadline for signing players via the pre-season supplementary list.

The son of club CEO Justin Reeves has been training with the Hawks throughout the pre-season after playing for St Kevin's in the VAFA in 2018 and impressed with his attitude and approach.

At 209cm, Reeves performed exceptionally well in the kicking test held at the AFL's 2017 draft combine and the Hawks' football manager Graham Wright believes he will develop more quickly if given the opportunity to be part of their program.

"While he’s a talented young player, he still has plenty of room to develop," Wright said.

"We believe that being in the AFL system under the guidance of the likes of Damian Monkhorst and Max Bailey will allow him to develop at a greater rate."

The Hawks have three ruckmen Ben McEvoy, Jonathan Ceglar and Marc Pittonet on their list with Jarryd Roughead also playing as a forward-ruck at times so Reeves will have time to find his feet.

The new recruit is likely to resume training with the club on Friday having taken a break from the program in the past fortnight as per AFL rules relating to pre-season supplementary selections.
