- England play the first of two warm-up matches ahead of the World Cup
- They will be without Eoin Morgan who suffered a fractured finger on Friday
- Jos Buttler will take over the captaincy in his absence on Saturday
England renew hostilities with old rivals Australia on Saturday in the first of two World Cup warm-up matches.
Eoin Morgan’s side play for the first time since announcing their 15-man squad for the upcoming tournament earlier in the week.
Jofra Archer, James Vince and Liam Dawson were all drafted in in place of David Willey, Alex Hales and Joe Denly from the original list named last month.
But they are set to be without their skipper for the visit of Aaron Finch’s side after Morgan suffered a dramatic injury scare on Friday.
Morgan suffered a small fracture when he was struck on the index finger of his left hand before heading to hospital for a precautionary x-ray.
And the captain expects to be fit for the start of the tournament when England face South Africa at the Oval on Thursday.
Morgan said: ‘The digit is the best I could have hoped. I dropped a catch at training and dislocated it and there’s a very small fracture in there.
‘But I’m good to go. I’m going to miss the warm-up game but regarding the first game of the tournament, I should be fit to go. It’s very good news. I was delighted.’
Jos Buttler will take over the captaincy in Morgan’s absence while Vince should get the chance to play for England on his home Hampshire ground in their penultimate warm-up before the big day.
Play gets underway in Southampton at 10.30.
