- Australia were on top form in the field in the World Cup final
Travis Head took one of the all-time great catches to give Australia a major boost in the Cricket World Cup final.
India captain Rohit Sharma demonstrated once again why he has been his nation’s dangerman at the tournament, with the opener smashing Australia’s bowlers in a frenetic start to the final in Ahmedabad.
After hitting Glenn Maxwell for six and four in the same over, Sharma got greedy and mistimed a delivery from the spinner, slicing away high into the offside.
But it was far from a simple catch for Aussie batter Head. Running towards the boundary, he kept his eyes firmly on the ball and held it securely to dismiss the India skipper to jubilant scenes amonght Pat Cummins’ men on the field.
The 130,000-strong partisan crowd, however, were stunned into silence.
