Anthony Joshua takes advice from Wladimir Klitschko ahead of Andy Ruiz rematch

Anthony Joshua has revealed he sought the advice of former foe Wladimir Klitschko as he bids to win back his heavyweight titles.

Klitschko gave Joshua an almighty fright at Wembley two years ago before being stopped by the Brit in the penultimate round.

The Ukrainian was no stranger to bouncing back from adversary having twice lost and regained the heavyweight world championship.

And Joshua explained how he has put the former champion's advice into practice this week.

"Klitschko is a G, he doesn't get enough credit for what he has achieved," he said in his fighter's meeting on Wednesday.

"When I fought him, he called me a cross fit champion and I thought, 'Who's this geezer talking to?'

"But he just knew that when it came to boxing he was better conditioned from spending more time in the ring, so we've spent a lot of time in the ring this time.

"Getting used to different canvases, getting comfortable in the ring, moving to my left and right and understanding ring generalship, understanding the science of boxing.

“Klitschko told me to stay off my phone this week and not listen to too many outside influences because my own belief is what is important this week, not what someone is trying to tell you on the outside.

"Rob [McCracken] has taught me since I was a kid and now he lets me put my input into training and we can talk about what I want to do.

"Sometimes he'll tell me that's a load of bulls*** or he'll tell me it will help."
