Ben Askren issues apology after first-round KO defeat by Jake Paul

Ben Askren has apologised to the world for being knocked out by Jake Paul.

The former UFC star was dropped after just 60 seconds of his professional boxing debut with the referee then waving off the fight.

And Askren, a former Olympic wrestler and MMA champion, admitted his performance was not up to scratch, tweeting simply: "Sorry world."

Speaking after the fight he went on to say: "I got knocked out by Jake Paul. Its f****** embarrassing."

When quizzed on what was next Askren responded: "I don't really give a s***. There's some pizza waiting in my hotel room, I'm going to go eat that, I'm going to fly home and hang out with my kids tomorrow."

He was then asked what went wrong in the bout and replied: "I heard my coach Mike, he was saying I definitely overreacting to his feints and that was probably the beginning of the end.

"If the ref would've let me grapple a little longer maybe that would've helped, but hey no excuses I got into a boxing match and it didn't go so well.

"I fought as hard as I could, I trained as hard as I could given the fact I was sitting on the couch for 16 months.

"They said 'let's fight' I said 'okay' and I started training right away.

"Given the amount of time I got into as good a shape as possible and I took it seriously. I was very disciplined in my training. I have no excuses."

Speaking after his victory Paul came out and claimed he was a "real fighter" and questioned how many times he has to prove his credentials.

"I told you I was going do it in the first round," he told Triller.

"I told you I'm a real fighter. I don't know how many times I've got to prove myself that this is for real."
