Boxing on TV tonight as Josh Taylor and the Charlo brothers return to the ring

Boxing serves up a treat tonight with a triple-header of fight nights on both sides of the Atlantic.

In London, Josh Taylor fights for the first time since his historic win over Regis Prograis last October when the Scot unified the super-lightweight division.

He puts his two belts on the line tonight against mandatory challenger Apinun Khongsong who comes to London with the same record but having fought a much lower level of opponent.

Over in Munich, the much-delayed but long-awaited final of the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament takes place as Marius Briedis and Yuniel Dorticos clash for the IBF belt and the Muhammad Ali trophy.

And then in America, the Charlo brothers headline a pay-per-view card in two intriguing fights.

Middleweight Jarmall takes on Sergei Derevyanchenko who is bidding to make it third time lucky in world title fights having suffered narrow defeats by Daniel Jacobs and Gennady Golovkin.

And Jermell takes on Jeison Rosario in a super-welterweight unification clash which has three belts on the line.

Josh Taylor’s light-welterweight unification clash with Jose Ramirez could be staged in his home city of Edinburgh.

WBA and IBF champ Taylor faces Thai Apinun Khongsong at York Hall on Saturday and his new promoter Bob Arum wants him to face WBC and WBO title holder Ramirez next.

Taylor, 29, has a large following in Scotland and Arum says American Ramirez would be prepared to come to Edinburgh next year if the numbers add up.

“Edinburgh is a beautiful, beautiful city,” said the Top Rank chief. “I’m looking forward to Edinburgh because a lot of kids in the United States, when they go abroad a lot of them go to Edinburgh to do university work and visit friends.

“So yeah, as far as Jose Ramirez is concerned, he’s said to me he doesn’t care where the fight is.

“Wherever it’s economically best to do the fight he’s for it whether that means him going to Scotland, London or doing it back in the United States.

“Wherever the fight makes the most sense, the fight will happen.

“Josh, of course, has a job to do on Saturday and he’s focused on that.”

Taylor refuses to look past the IBF’s mandatory challenger Khongsong, who has a 16-0-0 record like him, in what will be his first fight with new trainer Ben Davison.

“Everyone keeps talking about Ramirez, but I’m only thinking about Saturday’s fight,” he said.

“I know what my mindset is. He’s very dangerous. I’ve said this a couple of times and it’s his big chance.

“This could really change his life because not only can he become world champion, he can become the unified champion.

“It’s a massive opportunity, so 100 per cent he is dangerous.”
