Floyd Mayweather won’t bet on Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury as it’s ‘not a real fight’

Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather says he won't bet on the winner of Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury as he only gambles on “real fights”.

Despite the fact Paul and Fury are relatively novice fighters who are in the early stages of their fighting career, it is threatening to be one of the most popular and watched boxing fights of the year. The bitter rivals will finally face each other in the squared circle in an eight-round bout on Sunday, February 26 in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.

The day before, Mayweather will be headlining the O2 Arena when he faces former Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers in an exhibition clash. However, Mayweather did not want to choose a winner between Fury and Paul.

“I don’t really know,” Mayweather said to the Fighting on the Inside podcast, when urged to predict a winner. Mayweather was then asked if he had to bet a million dollars on a winner between Paul and Fury, who would he pick?

After a brief hesitation, Mayweather answered: “When I’m betting, I’m betting on real fights. “I’m not saying they’re not real fighters, they’re novice, professional fighters.

“But, when I’m betting on fights, I’m betting on fights that are top flight. But that’s the best novice fight that is going professionally, that’s going on right now.”

“May the best man win.” They may only be “novice professional fighters” in Mayweather’s eyes, but they will certainly both be taking home purses fit for world champions.

Reports from Sports Zion understand Paul will take home around £7.2million when overall prize money, sponsorships, and pay-per-view funds are taken into account, while Fury is set to leave the Middle East with around £3.77m. However, considering the animosity and bubbling hatred between the pair, money will likely be the last thing they think of when they step into the ring.

Both fighters are putting their unbeaten records on the line during the bout. Having beaten Tyron Woodley on two separate occasions and Anderson Silva, Fury will be the first professional boxer Paul has faced in the ring. All eyes will be on the pair to see if the Love Island runner-up also becomes the first professional boxer to lose to Paul.
