Jack Catterall will snub a world title shot against Regis Prograis or Devin Haney to get a crack at revenge against rival Josh Taylor.
The Chorley light-welterweight cruised to a points win over veteran three-weight world champion Jorge Linares on Saturday in Liverpool. Promoter Eddie Hearn wants to offer Catterall the winner of the WBC title clash between Prograis and Haney which takes place in December.
But Catterall is more interested in title-free Taylor because of their history. The pair faced off in February 2022 for the undisputed light-welterweight crown and Taylor retained all four belts on a controversial decision which caused a huge drama.

Catterall called for an immediate rematch but injuries put paid to it and Taylor went on to fight Teofimo Lopez. The Scot lost the WBO title against the American after being stripped of his other three belts over inactivity.
Yet Catterall still fancies revenge against his bitter rival. “It’s personal now,” he said. “He’s said a few things about me which has made this a lot more personal. He’s a s***house and I want to fight him next.”

Taylor spent Saturday night criticising Catterall for going the distance with Linares who, at 38, has lost his last four fights now and is set for retirement. Catterall’s promoter Eddie Hearn said: “The Prograis and Haney winner is a great fight.
“But I know the British public will go mad for the Taylor rematch. We will certainly have a look to see if we can do it.” In London, Isaac Chamberlain outpointed rival Mikael Lawal to win the British and Commonwealth cruiserweight titles.
