Ring girl ‘tradition’ promised at Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia

Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury promoter Derek Chisora has promised to bring back ring girls for their undefeated showdown tomorrow – despite it being in Saudi Arabia.

Due to strict laws surrounding women and what they can wear in Saudi Arabia, ring girls are expected to be absent this Sunday (February 26) at the Diriyah Arena.

However, ring girls might yet be possible should they follow the guidelines, with Chisora, who has describe himself as the face of boxing in Saudi Arabia, teasing their return without giving much away.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Sport before Paul takes on Fury on BT Sport Box Office this weekend, Chisora said: "It's traditional. You know what… we might bring the ring girls for this fight."

After a moment of thinking, he added: "Yeah, I'm gonna bring ring girls. You know what we will bring them."

With BT Sport Box Office also showing Tyson Fury's heavyweight title defence against Chisora back in December, ring girls Antonia Salt, Kayleigh Debono, Charlotte Fox and Nikki Dykes were in attendance.

Antonia told Daily Star Sport at the time of the event: "It’s always super exciting whenever Tyson fights.

"Not only for the boxing but for the show we know he'll put on. It’s just exciting to be a part of it all. Especially the view we get of the fight."

The tradition of using ring girls can be dated back to 1965, after a Las Vegas model was asked to hold up a sign displaying which round of the fight was next.

Chisora, a 33-13 stalwart of British boxing, has been in the middle of Saudi Arabia's preparations for the bout, evening facing off against Paul in the absence of Fury.

Chisora, who challenged for the WBC heavyweight title in both 2012 and 2022, also noted that his new role doesn't come without responsibility.

He said: "There was pressure on me, my first time sat at the top of the table but it was okay. Me and Jake were just playing with it, Jake is a good guy."

BT Sport Box Office will show Tommy Fury v Jake Paul exclusively live on Sunday, February 26 from 6:30pm. Learn more at btsport.com/boxing
