Nice: Julian Alaphilippe gave the French public a dream start to the Tour de France on Sunday, outsmarting Mitchelton-Scott's Adam Yates to win a sprint finish on stage 2 and claim the yellow jersey.
The Frenchman prevailed at the end of a tough 186-kilometre parcours from Nice, nudging out Swiss Marc Hirschi (Team Sunweb) and Briton Yates in a sprint finish after the trio had survived a long day in the break. Alaphilippe kept his cool to prevail as the peloton breathed down their necks.
