With James McDonald heading to Kembla Grange for five rides on Thursday it’s a good enough tip to make him the jockey to follow yet again after a winning treble on the Kensington track on Wednesday.
Race 9 No. 2: Deadly Impact
You couldn’t help but be impressed with the way he finished off his last race at this track over 1600m. He looks primed for 2000m now third-up.
Race 8 No. 15: Command King
He’s been so consistent from six starts having never missed a placing and Hugh Bowman is back on and he should give him the run of the race which should be good enough to put him in the finish.
Race 6: 1, 2, 6, 12
Race 7: 1, 5
Race 8: 3, 5, 13,15
Race 9: 1, 5
JOCKEY TO WATCH
James McDonald could win all the races he’s in today but two first starters, Wine Talks and As You Were, trialled up nicely and his booking only helps their chances.

Race 1 No. 3: Field Regiment
He’s building towards a win at start four where he’s very fit and will race in a positive fashion in what looks like a pretty weak field. It’s time to break his maiden.
TRAINER TO WATCH
Daniel Bowen has a big team going around today and Beef Week Princess and Amirykal are ones to watch.
QUADDIE – INSIDE MAIL
Regal Pom will be looking forward to a drier track today after two runs on the heavy so far and both were in town so he’ll appreciate this drop back in grade and James McDonald gets on now. Mirror One was honest on debut and takes natural improvement off it and he’ll have to because the form out of that Newcastle maiden is a bit questionable. King Of Hearts has come back a better horse this time in and wasn’t far off winning first-up in town. A win is coming. The trial form of some of the debutants isn’t crash hot so we’ll have to wait and see what they produce on race day.
Bet: Regal Pom to win
Stormborn is putting together a good record under Mark Newnham and she likes to put herself on the speed and take bad luck out of the equation which generally puts her in the finish. She’s very fit and ready to give another good account. Stoical was a good winner fresh then went down to a horse that came out and won a Saturday race not long after so back him to do well here and Tommy Berry sticks with him from barrier three. Designer Maid will try and lead them into the straight and a repeat of her last run gives her hope.
Bet: Stoical to win
Command King should get the run of the race from barrier two under Hugh Bowman. He wears the winkers for the first time and peaks now third-up on a track that will suit him. He’s never missed a place and I can’t see that statistic changing. Nikau will probably have the last crack at them if she’s ridden off the speed from a wide gate although she does wear blinkers for the first time which could see her race positive. So Sneeky has to come from a country win to the provincials which isn’t the easiest test but few horses also win by seven lengths so look for him to match these.
Bet: Command King to win
It’s good to see Deadly Impact getting out to 2000m now. He didn’t get the clearest of runs over 1600m last start but was really going through the line in strong fashion. He should thrive in today’s race as long as the track isn’t too wet. Squanto got caught deep in town last start so a drop in grade and an easier run in transit gives him a hope. Duchess Of Windsor also gets a more suitable trip here off two good performances this time in. She’s just got to take some improvement off those runs and she’s in this.
Bet: Deadly Impact to win
Brazen Force has a better gate today to take advantage of and make it easier to put himself on the speed, or even in the lead, much easier. It should ensure he can run out the 1900m. Tiomo will have no problem running this out and although he doesn’t have the best strike rate he should be able to give this a shake. It’s always hard for the top weight to win over this trip but Riot Act finds this race easier than the provincial event he’s been running around in of late where he’s been honest. It’s time to win now.
Bet: Quinella 1, 3
Nishikori would’ve won in another stride first-up and he has a second-up win to his name and punters watching that Grafton run would’ve put him in the black book straight away. Come In Spinner has been racing in great for this time in and wasn’t far off winning a midweek Brisbane race two runs back and he dominated last time out and the apprentice on him rod him to that win at Beaudesert and gets him in this with 3kg in weight relief. Positive Tension could lead them into the straight and he’s racing well enough to be hard to run down.
Bet: Exacta 1, 2
Beef Week Princess was doing her best work late a fortnight ago at Grafton’s carnival. She drops back in trip but also back in class so she’s got to be a hope from a better gate. Stablemate Picton took all of the straight to get the job done second-up and he’s been freshened for this and might get late support again like last start. Toots Is Tops hasn’t been in great form this time in but performs her best as her home track where she’s never missed a placing. My Zebrinka goes best fresh.
Bet: Beef Week Princess to win
Amirykal ticks the boxes for this. She goes well fresh, likes wet tracks and loves 1000m and this track. She’s got the barrier to win too. In A Step is also a 1000m specialist and will probably lead them into the straight but she could be vulnerable in the last 50m. Mecum finds his best when racing here but will need a good ride and luck from the barrier. A drying track would be ideal though. Phoenix River doesn’t have a great winning record but places a lot so a good run and even luck and he can go close.
Bet: Amirykal to win
