The equation is simple for Profiteer in Saturday’s Golden Slipper at Rosehill.
If Profiteer makes the improvement on his last run that co-trainer Mick Price expects, the colt will most likely win Australia’s richest two-year-old race.
Profiteer lost his unbeaten status when he went down narrowly to Anamoe in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Randwick at his last outing.
But Price wasn’t too concerned about Profiteer’s defeat as the Todman Stakes was the youngster’s first run in a month after his brilliant win in the $2 million Inglis Millennium on February 6.
“He was 28 days between runs with 10 days in the paddock and he only got beaten a short margin and was underdone,” Price, who trains Profiteer in partnership with Michael Kent Jr, said.
“He will get a lot of improvement fitness-wise.”
Price said the four-week gap was a measure to ensure Profiteer was still improving going into the Golden Slipper.
He said Profiteer would be one of the top chances in Saturday’s $3.5 million event if he makes the forecast improvement on his last run.

“I have to time my run with that horse, as you do with any other horse,” Price said.
“He’s a two-year-old so you have to be careful but he’s a happy colt and a good doer.
“If he makes two lengths improvement, he’s going to be the one to beat.”
Price said Profiteer galloped well at Rosehill last Saturday morning and would have another gallop at the home of the Golden Slipper on Tuesday morning.
The Caulfield trainer said moving to Rosehill for the Golden Slipper inspired confidence in jockey Hugh Bowman after Profiteer’s last-start effort at Randwick.
“Hugh said, ‘I can’t wait to get him to Rosehill’ and I think he’s a great chance,” Price said.
“He will be ready to go.”
Profiteer is a $4.50 equal favourite in Golden Slipper betting.
The final Golden Slipper field will be declared ahead of the barrier draw on Tuesday.
