Kawhi Leonard suffers jammed foot in Raptors’ victory over Suns

The Toronto Raptors’ 107-98 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Friday included a potential loss.

Forward Kawhi Leonard was hurt late in the fourth quarter; coach Nick Nurse said after the game that Leonard suffered a jammed foot. Leonard appeared to be walking gingerly moments after fighting for position in the paint during a Raptors possession.

Leonard and Nurse both said that the injury does not appear to be serious.

And neither did Kawhi:
“I think it’s going to be all right, nothing major. I just pushed off on it and kind of rolled it and I wanted to get it looked at.”

Leonard posted a team-high 19 points and added six rebounds, five assists, two steals and one blocked shot.

Any potential injury is a concern when it comes to the two-time All-Star. He missed all but nine games last season with the San Antonio Spurs because of a lingering right quadriceps injury. The Raptors have rested Leonard twice this season to manage his workload.

In the games Leonard has played, he has shown his MVP-caliber talent. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year is averaging 27.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.0 steals for the Raptors.

The Raptors’ next game is a high-profile road matchup against the Lakers on Sunday night.
