LAPD arrests 67 people during Lakers’ title celebration in downtown Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — Not everybody celebrated peacefully downtown Sunday night after the Los Angeles Lakers won their first NBA championship in a decade.

Police arrested 67 people, with 61 failing to disperse, according to officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Five people were arrested for looting and one person was arrested for vandalism, according to Madison, who also said one police officer received a hand injury from a bottle.

“It would have been nice if there were zero (arrests) and then we could have just celebrated peacefully,’’ he said. “Unfortunately, when it gets to this point, it’s usually because things are getting a little out of control.’’
