Travis Kelce blasted by NFL fans for being ‘Gronk wannabe’ after Chiefs win AFC

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has come under fire from NFL fans for his celebrations after clinching the AFC Championship on Sunday.

The Chiefs hosted the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium at the weekend, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes looking to guide the Missouri franchise to their first Super Bowl appearance since winning the fourth edition back in 1969.

The Titans had produced upsets agains the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens in the fortnight leading up to the AFC clash, but the Chiefs stood firm to record a 35-24 victory and book their spot in Miami in two weeks' time.

Despite a strong start from the visitors, the Chiefs took control of the game in the second quarter, with the hosts heading into the break 21-17 to the good thanks to two Mahomes touchdown passes to Tyreek Hill and a rushing touchdown for the quarterback.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Chiefs wrapped up the game in the fourth with two more touchdowns, setting up a Super Bowl showdown with the San Francisco 49ers, who beat Aaron Rodgers ' Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game later in the day.

After the game, the Chiefs fans celebrated wildly as many will never have seen their team take part in a Super Bowl before.

The players too enjoyed the victory after the clock ran out, with the Chiefs' stars taking to the field to show off the Lamar Hunt Trophy and celebrate with the supporters before getting back down to work for the final 13 days of the season.

One of the players interviewed after the game was tight end and five-time Pro Bowl selection Travis Kelce, who could barely contain his excitement.

As the confetti fell, the 30 year old said: "I'll tell you what, it's been seven years coming, baby!

"I've learned one thing since I've been here… You've got to fight… for your right… to party!"

But NFL fans blasted Kelce for the "cringey" comment, claiming the Chiefs' leading receiver wanted to be Rob Gronkowski, the former New England Patriots tight end famous for his party lifestyle.

One fan tweeted: "Cringe. Walmart Gronk."

While another added: "Gronk wannabe."

A third wrote: "I’ve never seen someone want to be gronk so bad! It’s pathetic really."
