NFL Power Rankings, Week 7: The Chiefs are the AFC’s best team

Welcome to For The Win’s NFL power rankings. These might be a little different from the power rankings you’ll find elsewhere. Here’s our approach: Records don’t matter much. We’re basing this on which teams we feel are currently playing at the highest levels – whether or not the results show it so far.

With that out of the way, let’s power rank some teams…

1. Los Angeles Rams (7-0)

Result: 39-10 W at SF

Another week, another dominant display from the NFL’s best team. It doesn’t look like anyone can slow down Todd Gurley and the offense. The defense is bound to get better.

2. New Orleans Saints (5-1)

Result: 24-23 W at BAL

The Saints picked up one of the more impressive wins of the NFL season, going on the road and putting up 24 on the league’s best defense. New Orleans’ pass defense is still a concern but at least it can stop the run.

3. Kansas City Chiefs (6-1)

Result: 45-10 W vs. CIN

The Chiefs defense finally showed up on Sunday night, shutting down what had been a good Bengals offense. If that’s a sign of things to come, the Rams will have some competition at the top of these rankings.

4. New England Patriots (5-2)

Result: 38-31 W vs. CHI

All of a sudden, the Patriots are stacked with offensive weapons. When healthy, that is. Josh Gordon is starting to make plays. Julian Edelman is back. James White can do it all. Sony Michel, whose injury is not as serious as we initially thought, looks like the real deal. And Rob Gronkowski should be back sooner rather than later.

5. Baltimore Ravens (4-3)

Result: 24-23 L vs. NO

Forget what the record says, the Ravens are a legitimate Super Bowl contender thanks to the defense, which is really in a class of its own. The passing game has also been better than it’s getting credit for.

6. Los Angeles Chargers (5-2)

Result: 20-19 W vs. TEN

We’ll give the Chargers a pass for playing a close game against a mediocre Titans team. The game was in another country, after all. It may have been the closest the Chargers get to playing a home game this season, actually.
