NFL star’s outfit mercilessly trolled

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton couldn’t lead his team to victory on Monday as they went down to the Houston Texans 27-20.

But for Newton the hits were landing before the game even got underway on Monday morning (AEDT).

The eccentric Newton has never shied away from making bold fashion statements during his post-game press conferences. But on Monday he took it to a whole new level.

Newton rocked brown shoes (with different coloured laces), plaid shorts, suspenders, a green bow tie and a cardigan draped over his shoulders.

Fans couldn’t help themselves and immediately pointed out just how similar Newton’s outfit looked to the little yodel man from The Price is Right.

I knew I recognized Cam Newton’s outfit from somewhere.

The 2015 NFL MVP explained his decision behind his outfit was to showcase who he truly is and nobody should shy away from being themselves.

“For it to be shorts, suspenders, bow tie, over-sweater, those are just little things; I don’t want to look like nobody else. I want to be uniquely me. … Different is good,” Newton said on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show.

“I want to promote being yourself, being uniquely you. And I think if we have more people thinking like that, this world would be in a better place.”

Former NFL kicker Pat McAfee was a big fan of the statement Newton’s outfit made, but did admit he looked like the Price is Right character.

“By the way, the way he dressed yesterday, fantastic,” Pat McAfee said.

“He really did look like the yodel guy from the Price is Right, going up and then going down.

“If you don’t respect fashion then you have no idea what you’re looking at.”

Newton and the Patriots have six games remaining in the NFL season with the star QB’s one-year tenure now leading to major speculation over his future.

Asked about if his future lies with the Patriots following the end of this season, Newton skirted around the question.

“Man, I have interest in winning the Arizona Cardinals game,” Newton said.

“How about that? There are so many things that — I don’t want to even harp, dwell, or even think — as the Bible says, ‘my cup runneth over.’ Just trying to focus on the near future rather than the far future.”
