Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen’s rivalry reached a new level after their crash at Sunday’s British Grand Prix.
The two top Formula One drivers were battling it out for first position during the opening lap at Silverstone when their aggression resulted in a collision at Copse Corner.
Verstappen retired from the race after flying into the barriers as Hamilton closed the gap on the Dutchman in the drivers’ championship table.
The 23-year-old then directed shots at Hamilton on social media by calling his celebrations ‘disrespectful’ and ‘unsportsmanlike’ given he was hospitalised.
With more fireworks expected as we approach the halfway point of the calendar, Daily Star Sport looks at F1’s biggest feuds over the years.

Lewis Hamilton vs Nico Rosberg
The last person to seriously challenge Hamilton for a title was his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg.
Rosberg and Hamilton had been childhood friends since their karting days but the relationship soured beyond repair after Hamilton joined Mercedes in 2013 and they began competing for the championship.
The pair crashed at the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix where Hamilton blamed Rosberg, before an incident the following year where Rosberg angrily threw a podium cap back at the Brit.
Things escalated in 2016’s Spanish Grand Prix where their competitive spirit led to both Mercedes cars crashing out of the race.
Rosberg managed to pip his rival to the 2016 title, winning his only championship before retiring that year.
Sebastian Vettel vs Mark Webber
Do you think Hamilton and Verstappen could go down as one of the greatest ever rivalries? Let us know in the comments section.
Another famous teammate feud was between Sebastian Vettel and the experienced Mark Webber at Red Bull.
Vettel took F1 by storm as the youngest ever champion before trailblazing his way to three consecutive championships, but Webber was reluctant to play second-fiddle to the German.
The pair’s relationship took a turn for the worse in 2013 after Vettel ignored team orders not to overtake Webber as Red Bull sat comfortably in a 1-2.
But Vettel launched an attack on his teammate with 13 laps to go which risked a crash and eventually denied Webber a win, leading him to berate the German after the race and retire at the end of the season.
Michael Schumacher vs David Coulthard
Before Hamilton and Verstappen there was Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard.
The two raced for Ferrari and McLaren respectively where the rivalry nearly ended in fisticuffs on one occasion at the Belgian GP in Spa.
Schumacher collided into the back of the Scot before storming down the pit-lane and shouting: “Are you trying to kill me?”
The German then had to be physically restrained to prevent him from hitting Coulthard.
Ayrton Senna vs Alain Prost
Senna and Prost undoubtedly hold the mantle for the greatest ever F1 feud.
The pair collided in 1989 at the Japanese Grand Prix where Senna was disqualified for taking his rival out the race, meaning he lost out on the title.
They collided again the following year which in turn resulted in Senna becoming world champion, leading Prost to call him ‘a man without value’.
