Lewis Hamilton has already been told F1 ‘needs’ him at Ferrari

Hamilton opens up on plans to remain in F1 ahead of 2023 season

Lewis Hamilton has already been told to join Ferrari by Formula 1 team boss turned pundit Eddie Jordan with the Irishman suggesting the sport needs him to follow in the footsteps of Michael Schumacher. Jordan is not the only person to encourage the seven-time world champion to join the Scuderia either with the move likely to be popular with F1 fans.

Hamilton has regularly been linked with a move to Ferrari throughout his Formula 1 career but the rumours have been louder than ever this year. The Daily Mail reports that the Scuderia are preparing to offer him £40million a year to join the team in what would be one of the most sensational moves in the sport’s history.

Jordan has previously stated that the partnership would be a match made in heaven as he urged Hamilton to make the move for his final years in the sport.

“There’s only one place he could go to in my opinion and that is Ferrari,” he told Express Sport in an exclusive interview last month. “A guy with the talent that he is, and I think it might be a [match made] in heaven. I think Ferrari needs shaking up and I think Lewis Hamilton needs shaking up if they are going to continue.

“If Lewis is going to continue then I think he needs a change. For his mindset, for his drive, for initiative, for fun. Learning Italian, dealing and eating pasta with those guys, it’s a different world. And having run a team we always saw how different Ferrari operates and I would love to see Lewis in that environment.”

Jordan went even further in another interview with OLGB stating that it was something that Formula 1 needs to happen. He said: “Formula 1 needs Lewis Hamilton in a Ferrari, and Ferrari needs Lewis Hamilton.”

Jordan is not the only prominent Formula 1 figure to argue in favour of the move with Johnny Herbert also in agreement. The three-time race winner believes Hamilton has the right ingredients to bring success back to Ferrari like Schumacher did before him.

“The only option that is out there is the Ferrari,” he told Express Sport last month. “Is it somewhere that could give Lewis and Charles a world championship? Well yes but again it’s about getting all the right ingredients and there are certain ingredients there that are positive, with his experience.

“Now I know when Michael [Schumacher] went he went with Rory Byrne, he went with Ross [Brawn], a few people with Benetton and he made it work because they had that total utter belief. But I think [Hamilton] will take that same mentality to Ferrari because Ferrari will know he has seven laurels on his overalls and you know this guy is the real deal.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Hamilton makes the move to Ferrari in the coming months but it is looks set to be a saga that will entertain F1 fans for some time.
