Max Verstappen won yet another race having comfortably sealed victory at the Mexican Grand Prix. At team-mate Sergio Perez’s home race, the Dutchman broke his own record for race wins in a single season by claiming his 16 victory of 2023.
It was not such a happy occasion for Perez, though, with the Mexican crashing out on the first lap of his home race. The Red Bull star made contact with Charles Leclerc at the very first corner.
There were some positives for Mercedes to take away from Mexico City. Lewis Hamilton was the runner-up, sealing a sixth podium finish.
Drivers now face a quick turnaround to the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Hamilton ‘would bet’ on Verstappen record
Lewis Hamilton says he would ‘put money’ on Max Verstappen winning up to 19 races this season.
Verstappen beat his own record by claiming his 16th victory of 2023 at the Mexican Grand Prix.
And Hamilton believes Red Bull are so far ahead of everyone else that Verstappen can sweep up before the season ends.
The seven-time World Champion said: “Hopefully, these next couple of races will be close, but I’d probably put money on it that [Max] will get to 18, 19 [wins] with that car.”
Verstappen continues Perez feud
Max Verstappen says Sergio Perez’s excitement got the better of him in his home race.
Perez suffered a disastrous time in Mexico, crashing out at the first corner after coming into contact with Charles Leclerc.
And it left team-mate Verstappen frustrated by the 33-year-old’s approach, leading to yet another dig at Perez.
“I understand because it’s his home Grand Prix and you want to be on the podium, I fully understand that,” Verstappen sighed afterwards.
“He went around the outside, and he tried. Looking at the footage, I think he could have left a little bit more space, but at the other end if it would have worked, you know, you look amazing.
“Of course, I think it’s just more like that excitement of wanting to be on the podium and this time it didn’t work out, unfortunately.”
Hamilton warned by Mercedes chief
Toto Wolff has warned Lewis Hamilton that he must be better in qualifying if Mercedes are to match Max Verstappen.
Hamilton came second in the Mexican Grand Prix, trailing Red Bull’s Verstappen.
It was a largely positive weekend for the SIlver Arrows, but Wolff believes the difference could be in their qualifying performances.
Hamilton qualified in P6 while team-mate George Russell was in P8.
“It’s been a few weekends now where we say we ‘could have’ but didn’t,” Wolff told Sky Sports F1.
“I think we need to qualify better. Probably with the straight-line speed, we wouldn’t have been so competitive against Max, but who knows? The pace is there.”
