Max Verstappen chants about Sergio Perez as Las Vegas afterparty footage emerges

Max Verstappen joined in with chants about his team-mate Sergio Perez as footage emerged of the Las Vegas Grand Prix winner’s antics at the team’s afterparty. Red Bull’s celebrations went on late into the night after Verstappen and Perez secured a double podium at the inaugural race on the converted Las Vegas strip, with the reigning world champion jubilantly belting out a song about his colleague.

Verstappen clinched his 18th win of the season in Las Vegas after a thrilling battle with Charles Leclerc and Perez, who finished third having led 15 laps from the finish. It was enough to get the 33-year-old smiling after narrowly missing out in Brazil to Fernando Alonso, securing his first podium since Monza, and Red Bull celebrated the occasion with a lavish Sin City afterparty.

Footage has emerged on social media from the bash, with Verstappen letting loose having already wrapped up the Drivers’ Championship at the Qatar Grand Prix. In the video, the 26-year-old driver can be seen dancing and singing along to chants before fans begin singing about Perez.

With a drink in hand and appearing in good spirits, Verstappen joined in with the chants, singing: “Checo! Checo!” – Perez’s nickname – to the tune of ‘Ole! Ole! Ole!.

The song broke out at the Mexican Grand Prix where Perez crashed out at his home race, with fans backing their favourite driver. He also received a warm reception in Las Vegas, with thousands of Mexicans making the short trip north to Nevada.

Verstappen looked out to the crowd beneath and gave them multiple thumbs up before socialising with some of the partygoers around him. The three-time world champion seemed to enjoy singing about his team-mate, reinforcing the idea that the pair maintain a positive relationship as team-mates.

When the Dutchman’s face appeared, fans at the party decided to honour the race winner with his very own trademark tune as they sang verbatim: “Duh duh duh-duh, Max Verstappen!”

Building up to the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Perez spoke of how his relationship with Verstappen has blossomed after facing heavy pressure over his future with the team.

“I think our relationship is really good,” Perez said. “I think the whole engineering [process] when we are in all those briefings, through so many races, I think it’s been good. We’ve been pushing at times in different directions. But at the same time we’ve been strongly asking for the same stuff so that also has been positive for the team.

“I think it’s been a lot better [this season]. I think it’s always been good, this is our third season together so it’s been a good one.”

It will be business as normal when the pair get back to work on Friday for the first free practice session around the Yas Marina circuit. And if Perez secures his third win of the season in Abu Dhabi, don’t expect Verstappen to revive the chant.
