Paul Kent believes former Cowboys premiership winning coach Paul Green rather than Brisbane great Kevin Walters is the favourite to land the Broncos top job.
Walters would appear to be a strong candidate because of his history with the club and ability to galvanise the fractured Broncos, but Green has him covered for experience and success in the NRL.
“I don’t know if Kevvie (Walters) is going to get the job,” Kent said on Triple M.

“My understanding is Kevvie is not the favourite for the job. My understanding is that Green is the favourite candidate at the moment.
“That is not my opinion. That is what I have heard.
“The Broncos are under a lot of pressure to get this decision right and I think that is really telling on the club at the moment.”
Green has the superior record at NRL level given that Walters is yet to get a start.
The 47-year-old coached the Cowboys to 87 wins in 167 NRL games for a win percentage of 52.1, with two grand finals and a premiership in 2015.
Walters coached the Catalans Dragons to 25 wins from 63 games at a 39.7 win percentage and has one two series and lost two as Maroons coach from 2016.

Kent believes either candidate is capable of success in the tough environment at Red Hill on one important condition.
“I think Paul Green is a very good coach. I think Kevin Walters what we have seen in Origin he knows what he is talking about, so I think they can both do the job,” Kent said.
“Each of them have got to come in and be aware of their shortcomings. I think that is the most important thing.
Bennett heading back to the Broncos?
NRL: Wayne Bennett could make a stunning return to the Broncos as a coaching director but only if there are changes made to the board.
“When you talk about the Broncos coach no one other than Bennett in a former life is a perfect fit for the Broncos now.
“I think Kevvie has got a lot of upside, but has to be aware of his shortcomings as a coach and how he can fix them.
“The same with Paul Green, they are different in each case. But I think either can do a pretty good job if they are aware of that.”
