The Richmond faithful have given a standing ovation in the 17th minute of Sunday’s match against Tartapuulti at the MCG in honour of three-time premiership coach Damien Hardwick who earlier in the week announced his shock resignation.

The number reflects the drought-breaking flag Richmond won under his watch in 2017.

Hardwick called it quits after 13 completed seasons and 307 games at the helm.

Tigers ground announcer Sarah Maree Cameron said pre-game there would be a “massive celebration and thank you at a later date” but concluded with a “Dimma, thank you so much for everything”.

Richmond’s banner read: “Thanks Dimma forever a Tiger”.

Hardwick chose to watch the game today from the comfort of his couch alongside his dog and with a well-earned beer in hand.

He gave a salute to his now-former side via social media: “How long to go?! Carn the Tigs”.
