Arsenal have prioritised five positions for the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta gets ready to splash the cash.
The Gunners have suffered a tough first full season under the Spaniard, looking set to miss out on European football with a mid-table Premier League finish and no cup wins.
While it has seen pressure build on the manger’s position, he has received the backing of the north London board.
And football.london have reported that Arsenal will focus on five key areas of the starting XI to bolster the team for the 2021/22 campaign.
The first position that will be addressed is the No.1 spot, with Bernd Leno costing the Gunners some games with big errors this season.
While Matthew Ryan has provided competition on his loan from Brighton, Arteta may look to a more secure set of hands over the summer.
Brentford shot-stopper David Raya earned admiration from the Emirates Stadium last year while QPR’s Seny Dieng almost sparked a transfer battle with Leeds in January.
One player who does not have a lot of competition, though, is left-back Kieran Tierney – and the report states this position is also being prioritised.
And the announcement of Ryan Bertrand’s upcoming exit from Southampton has piqued the Gunners’ interest.
Arteta is also looking to fill the same position on the opposite wing, according to the report.
While Hector Bellerin and Cedric Soarer have tussled for the position, long-term targets Max Aarons and Tariq Lamptey could be approached to boost the defence.
And the last two positions come in the midfield, with the Gunners looking for both a central attacking midfielder and a player to sit in front of the defence.
