AC Milan ‘target Arsenal outcast Mohamed Elneny’ in £13m January move despite Egyptian midfielder’s struggles at Besiktas

  • AC Milan have reportedly lined up a move for Mohamed Elneny in January
  • Arsenal loanee is currently at Besiktas but has struggled to impress in Turkey
  • Reports in Italy say that Elneny could be used as a replacement for Franck Kessie
  • Milan boss Stefano Pioli is believed to be keen on strengthening his midfield

Arsenal outcast Mohamed Elneny has reportedly been targeted by AC Milan for a £13million move in January.

The Egyptian midfielder, currently on loan at Turkish side Besiktas, is believed to have already expressed a desire for a new challenge.

Milan fear losing Franck Kessie to the Premier League in the winter transfer window, and Gazzetta have linked the Italian giants with a surprise swoop for Elneny.

AC Milan are reportedly interested in a permanent move for Arsenal loanee Mohamed Elneny

Reports in Italy suggest that new Milan boss Stefano Pioli believes that the 27-year-old’s strength could prove crucial in reviving the club’s European aspirations.

However, Elneny is yet to impress since being shipped out to Turkey in the summer – and had also struggled for regular game time under Unai Emery at the Emirates last term.

Pioli is already under pressure at Milan after a torrid start to the new campaign plunged them into 13th spot and saw predecessor Marco Giampaolo axed.

The club have suffered four defeats from their first seven league matches so far.

The 27-year-old had made 89 appearances for Arsenal before being shipped out this summer

And 53-year-old Pioli has purportedly identified his side’s midfield options as a key concern – and favours Elneny’s attributes over current stars Ismael Bennacer and Lucas Biglia.

The former Arsenal man had been sent off on his debut for Besiktas and promptly received a three-match ban from the Turkish Football Federation.

Elneny made 89 appearances for the Gunners after joining them from Basel in 2016 for £7million.
