Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker was left furious with referee Mike Dean after their defeat to Burnley.
The Brazilian goalkeeper was adjudged to have brought down Ashley Barnes late on as the Clarets were given a perfect chance to end the Reds’ unbeaten home run.
Barnes stepped up and beat Alisson from 12 yards to condemn Jurgen Klopp’s side to their first home defeat in the Premier League since 2017.
With tensions running high, Alisson confronted referee Dean on the pitch at the final whistle and voiced his displeasure.
He had to be restrained by manager Jurgen Klopp, who made his way over to the officials and removed his player from the situation.
Klopp was pictured with his arm around the frustrated Alisson as they made their way back to the Anfield dressing room.
After the game, Klopp revealed Alisson told him he believed he had made no contact with his opponent.
Klopp said: “We had the ball a lot, created some and didn’t finish the situations off.
“That keeps the game open and then they get the penalty – Alisson told me he didn’t touch him, but I didn’t see it back.”
The result extended Liverpool's winless run to five league games, but Klopp insisted he must take the blame for recent results.
He added: "It's not about blaming, we have to sort it together and we will. In football you don't have a lot of time.
“We tried a lot, in some moments the right things and some not. That's the problem You have to break the wall down by trying, in the right mood. We had chances.
"The things that don’t work are my fault. The things that work are the players.
“We’ve worked that long together now. If I make clear which movements make sense because it will hurt the opponent, and they don’t do them, then I have to make it clearer. That’s how it is.
“The good thing is, we can change it, we just have to work on it. And we can’t work on tonight’s game any more, but we can use it for the next one. I can’t believe we lost it, but it’s the truth and we have to accept that.”
