Ancelotti eyes Man Utd transfer swoop to challenge Pickford as Everton No.1

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is interested in bringing Manchester United’s Argentinian international keeper Sergio Romero to Goodison Park.

The Italian wants to put pressure on Jordan Pickford, the England man having failed to impress Ancelotti last season.

Pickford made a number of expensive mistakes and Ancelotti feels that competition for places will help sharpen him up.

Romero has become frustrated at Old Trafford having been used sparingly, usually in cup ties, during his five years with the club.

But he is still Argentina’s number one having amassed 96 caps and is now looking for a move following Dean Henderson’s decision to also fight for David De Gea’s number one position following two seasons on loan at Sheffield United.

Newly promoted Leeds United are also monitoring Romero’s situation as they contemplate life in the Premier League.

Although Romero has never let Manchester United down when handed an opportunity manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prepared to listen to offers.

Ancelotti is anxious to make a breakthrough in the transfer market and is in advanced talks with Real Madrid over Columbian playmaker James Rodriguez and Napoli midfielder Allan.
