Antonio Cassano reignites Jose Mourinho feud, calling Roma 'LUCKY'

‘Well done Rome, but they did s***’: Antonio Cassano reignites his feud with Jose Mourinho, claiming the manager ‘SUCKED’ and that Roma were ‘VERY LUCKY’ their defensive game paid off in their Europa League win

  • He also said Mourinho ‘sucked’, despite their successful route to the final

Antonio Cassano has continued his war of words with Jose Mourinho, claiming his Roma side were ‘lucky’ to see off Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League semi-finals.

The self-proclaimed Special One and the former Italy striker have been trading verbal blows for some time, most recently when Cassano accused the Portuguese boss of ‘another s****y look’ by bringing up a historic fight at Inter Milan.

And it has reignited in the wake of Roma’s dogged defensive display against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday, cancelling out the Germans for a 0-0 draw on the night, after winning the opening leg by a solitary goal last week.

Following last year’s success in the inaugural Europa Conference League final, Roma will face Sevilla in their bid for back-to-back European trophies.

On his Instagram project ‘Antonio Speaks’, Cassano aimed harsh criticism at Roma for their style of play on Thursday, despite being glad his former club are in the Europa League final later this month.

Cassano attacked Jose Mourinho’s tactics to play defensively to snuff out Bayer Leverkusen

Cassano said: ‘I start from the assumption that I am very happy, because I love Rome and its people.

‘But it is not possible that from the beginning to the end there will be fights and quarrels.

‘They dropped to the ground and didn’t play half an action in 98 minutes.’

He then turned his attack onto Mourinho, saying: ‘The coach will say that everything is special, but in life, as Napoleon said, he is better a lucky commander than a strong one.

‘And he is very lucky, he is impressive. He sucked, but it will be said that last year he won the Conference and now he has reached the final. We will continue for results.’

He said that Roma beat ‘weaker teams’ as the draw was kind to the Italian club. Before the Bayer Leverkusen semi-final, Mourinho’s side eliminated RB Salzburg, Real Sociedad and Feyenoord.

Roma won their semi-final 1-0 on aggregate to set up a final with Sevilla at the end of May

Cassano rounded off his assault by saying: ‘I have to talk about football and analyse the game. A rather embarrassing thing. Something you can’t understand at all.

‘But what will he say? I made it to the final, I won, I don’t give a shit. Well done Rome, but they did s***.’

Before the Sevilla clash on May 31, Roma have two Serie A matches, at home to Salernitana on Monday evening before a trip to Fiorentina the following weekend.

While there are strong rumours that Mourinho will leave Roma at the end of the season, the club have promised two huge summer signings in a bid to keep him.
