Arsenal backed for relegation struggle as Sam Allardyce hints at mentality issue

Relegation expert Sam Allardyce has included Arsenal in his own personal relegation Table of Doom.

West Brom 's new boss has an Honours Degree in how to avoid the drop and says Mikel Arteta's side are right in it.

Allardyce has pinpointed an eight-club mini league that he wants his men to finish top of – and he's not given 15 th placed Arsenal a free pass.

The Gunners might be one of the so-called Big Six but Big Sam says they can't escape the fact that they are one of West Brom's relegation rivals.

Allardyce said: “If they are in the bottom eight at the moment, then yes absolutely.

“I believe they haven’t won a Premier League game in nearly double figures, and it appears their big results have come in the Europa League.

“Getting beaten in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night drains the confidence of Arsenal’s players, of course it will.

“They will be wondering what’s hit them. They will be wondering why they’re down there and they will be wondering what it’s going to take to get out of that position.”

Allardyce adds: “I know what it takes and I hope I can convince the players to respond to what I say on that.

“If we can beat our rivals in the bottom eight, or draw and we finish top of that table we will almost certainly guarantee our safety.

“It’s a test for us and a challenge for the players to realise that the most productive performances need to happen against the bottom eight.

“There are no easy wins but the capabilities of winning those games are better than they are playing the top five or six.”
