Arsenal can’t afford Houssem Aoaur or Thomas Partey transfers unless one thing happens

Arsenal won’t be able to afford a deal to sign either Houssem Aouar or Thomas Partey this summer unless they start selling players, according to The Mirror. Lyon midfielder Aouar has apparently agreed to join the Gunners, but might be denied the chance to sign.

Arsenal are still determined to sign Aouar this summer after making the Frenchman their top target of the window.

Mikel Arteta wants to sign a new playmaker this summer, seemingly to replace Mesut Ozil in the first-team picture.

The Gunners have been savvy in the transfer market so far, and have only spent £30million so far despite bringing in five new faces.

However, their final signing of the window will likely cost more than their entire spend so far, with Aouar valued at £54m and Partey at £45m.

Atletico Madrid and Lyon have taken similar stances over their star men, with neither willing to budge on their valuations.

Arsenal have reportedly agreed terms with Aouar and are ready to sign him instead of Partey, but have faced a financial issue.

They are ready to pay €35m [£32m] and have placed an offer as of Friday night, however Lyon still want more.

And according to The Mirror, the Gunners know they’ll have to sell players before the window closes in order to fund the move.

Arsenal have found it tough to offload unwanted players this summer, with Emiliano Martinez the only player to bring them some money after his £16m switch to Aston Villa.

Saed Kolasinac, Matteo Guendouzi, Sokratis Papasthathopoulos and Lucas Torreira are all expected to be offered out before the window closes on October 5th, with the Gunners hoping to recoup some money before making a final bid.

And speaking to the Here We Go podcast, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Arsenal are working hard to offload those players before time runs out.

“Obviously the club that is working to sign Aouar is Arsenal,” he said.

“We have to say that Arsenal are convinced that if they could sell some players, and they have many in [Sead] Kolasinac, Sokratis [Papastathopoulos] and [Lucas] Torreira, many players to sell or loan out in the last two weeks, they can try again for Aouar.

“Lyon are asking for €60million, so it’s complicated but the player would be ready to join the Premier League, would be ready to join Arsenal.

“The player would like to come to the Premier League and to join Arsenal but for now there are no negotiations.

“In July they offered Guendouzi as part of the deal and they didn’t find an agreement.

“Now it’s up to Arsenal if they sell players, I am convinced [they will bid again].”
