Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Flamengo defender Pablo Mari on loan.
The Brazilian is set to be Mikel Arteta's first signing since taking over with a £7.5m move in the summer a possibility should he pass his medical, reports the Daily Mail.
Defence has been Arsenal's main problem this season with the club shipping more than a goal a game this term.
Mari has enjoyed an impressive past 12 months helping Flamengo win the league title and the Copa Libertadores.
He was part of the XI that took Liverpool to extra-time in the Club World Cup final last year, but has not played since that defeat.

Mari has previous experience of English football having played for Manchester City before switching to the Brazilian side last season.
He never made an appearance for Pep Guardiola's side but is expected to be part of Arteta's immediate plans with his defensive options lacking.

Mari's signing has led to suggestions Mustafi with be ushered towards the exit door at the Emirates with Arteta already looking to stamp his authortiy.
But the Spaniard has spoken out explaining that this isn't the case and, despite the German's costly mistake, is satisfied with his attitude.

"When he is my player and when he is training with me the way he does every day, of course," he said when asked whether Mustafi had a future in north London.
"The plans maybe in the summer were different with him. I came here, he is here and his attitude is always right and he wants to help.
"Yes he made a mistake, but it’s OK. I like more the reaction and I look more at the reaction."
