Arsenal are set to launch a bid for Real Betis star Guido Rodriguez, who has a release clause of £68.8m. It comes after the disappointment of Thomas Partey, who has failed to live up to expectations since his move from Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal look set to bolster their midfield with the signing of Rodriguez from Real Betis this summer.

It comes after Mikel Arteta made the position a priority ahead of the transfer window at the end of the season.

The Gunners are in the midst of one of their worst seasons in the Premier League as they struggle to fend for a spot in the top 10.

Their only hopes of Champions League football seem to rely on their Europa League campaign – a competition they have never won.

One of the reasons for their poor form this year has been their comical defending, while there has also been a sense of disappointment over new signing Partey.

No team in the Premier League has conceded more from errors than Arsenal, with recent examples including mistakes from Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos – both central midfielders.

It has led the Gunners to identify Rodriguez as the man to solve their problems in the middle, according to Mundo Deportivo, who has a release clause of £68.8m.

The Argentine has been a revelation for Real Betis, who helped transform Manuel Pellegrini’s side from La Liga perennials to Europa League door knockers.

Since the 26-year-old was given a more integral role in the squad, Los Verdiblancos have flown up the table into sixth.

It has led to the likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid taking a closer look, but Mundo Deportivo report that Arsenal are also in the hunt.

The report also goes on to state that there has been a feeling of disappointment over Partey, who joined from Atletico last year.

The Ghana international was given the duty to solve Arsenal’s soft centre but a mixture of injuries and poor form have taken a toll.

There is no inclination that the Gunners are prepared to axe the 27-year-old, who is still in his first year of Premier League football.

Against West Ham, Partey struggled in the first 30 minutes that saw the Hammers score three times but the north London outfit roped themselves back into the match to claim a point.

“I think we could have done better from the beginning. They dominated from the beginning and we were completely lost,” Partey told Arsenal’s official website.

“I think they came out very strong. They overloaded us on the outside and they are strong with crossing.

“The spirit was high after we conceded three goals. From there, we started to give our all. But we have to start as we ended, in both halves.

“We have to learn from all these mistakes, we have to know when we have to go out strong, when we have to dominate from the beginning.

“It’s important in the Premier League to start winning from the beginning to be in the top. You have to start good and end well.”
