Luton Town v Arsenal: Pictures
Ivan Toney fuelled rumours of a January move to Arsenal with a teasing social media post, which he quickly deleted, after Declan Rice’s late winner against Luton Town. The latter rose highest to head home for the Gunners in the 97th minute, with his goal putting Mikel Arteta’s side five points clear at the top of the Premier League until Liverpool play tonight.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a potential move for Toney next month, with the Brentford striker’s future highly uncertain as things stand. He is currently serving a ban for betting breaches but will return before the January window closes and has already been training for a number of months.
Toney fanned the flames of a possible move to north London after the final whistle against Luton, when he took to Instagram to congratulate Rice on his influential performance. He captioned the photo: “@DeclanRice. What a game [heart eyes emoji],” before swiftly deleting it from his page.
It remains unclear whether the post was a deliberate ploy to stir the pot or if Toney was simply congratulating Rice on his crucial input against Luton. He has previously flirted with the idea of joining Arsenal, with the Brentford ace revealing earlier this year that he has always admired their playing style despite supporting Liverpool as a boy.

“If the chance came along, then I’d have to look more into it,” said Toney on the Diary Of A CEO podcast when asked for his thoughts on a future move away from Brentford. “The manager knows I want to play at the highest level possible, whenever that time comes then so be it.
“My time at Brentford has been good, probably one of the best times of my whole career. The next club I go to, if I was to move, would be the right club. I’ve been a Liverpool fan my whole life, but from young I’ve liked Arsenal.”
Toney has also received a glowing recommendation from none other than Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who said in October that his former club will struggle to challenge for the Premier League title without adding the 27-year-old to their squad.

He told the Stick To Football podcast: “We spread goals out last season and it took us to a certain place. I think with Toney, the links won’t go away as it’s blatantly obvious to see, that focal point, that player who scores, that takes you somewhere else.
“You can’t question the endeavour of Eddie [Nketiah] or [Gabriel] Jesus but you look back at the Tottenham game with the Jesus chance. For a player of that calibre to be in that position 1-0 up, those chances have to be buried. The margins are so small now you can’t afford to be missing chances like and that and not winning games
“The work off the ball is fantastic for both players. The Toney links don’t go away because for me that is the last piece of the jigsaw. He’ll do it if it can be done.”
