Arsenal want Gabriel Jesus to miss Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers versus Colombia and Argentina later this month.

The Gunners striker has missed Arsenal’s last three games due to a minor hamstring injury which saw limp out of their Champions League win at Sevilla last month.

Jesus had hoped to be available for the game at Newcastle but his return has been delayed.

The former Manchester City forward is now making pleasing progress but playing against Sevilla on Wednesday of Burnley at the weekend would open the door to Jesus being selected by Brazil – who are already without Neymar.

Arsenal are taking a cautious approach to Jesus’ return to availability given his previous injury concerns and would prefer their striker not to be included for international action next week.

With so many injuries racking up for the Brazilian, Mikel Arteta may head into the January transfer market with a replacement in mind.

England and Brentford striker Ivan Toney is linked with a move to the Emirates after serving his ban for betting offences, and would be an ideal candidate to challenge the injury-prone Jesus.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are already without midfielder Thomas Partey amid concerns he could struggle to play again in 2023.

The Ghanian star will be missing for “weeks” according to Arteta after already suffering a groin injury in September and has since picked up a muscle injury.

Emile Smith Rowe is also set to be out for a month after a knee injury suffered against Sheffield United, while Jurrien Timber is a long-term casualty with a knee injury.
