Man City could be vulnerable this weekend against Arsenal | Football Digest
Sheffield United star Chris Basham was given oxygen and rushed to hospital after suffering a horror injury in his side’s match with Fulham on Saturday. The defender caused a lengthy delay to play as he received treatment on the pitch, before being stretchered into the back of an ambulance and quickly whisked to hospital.
Basham went down on the right flank and the physio was called over, before he was stretchered off the pitch and replaced by Jack Robinson. Basham’s name was sung all around Craven Cottage, with even home supporters giving their support to the visitors’ hero.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Sheffield United wrote: “Jack Robinson replaces Chris Basham who leaves Craven Cottage on a stretcher following a lengthy stoppage in play. We send our best wishes to Bash, and will communicate updates as and when we have them.”
There were 14 minutes of stoppage play added on with the two sides locked in a goalless draw, the majority of additional time coming as a result of the medical treatment that Basham received before leaving the pitch on a stretcher in worrying scenes.

Basham had made a run down the right wing and attempted to cross the ball under pressure from Ream, but cried out in pain when he attempted to find a team-mate despite no challenge from the Fulham defender, prompting concern from Ream that led to Basham quickly being treated by the physios.
Basham was starting just his third match Premier League match of the season. The defender was brought in to replace John Egan, who picked up an injury against West Ham last time out. Manager Paul Heckingbottom was hopeful Basham would be in the team for a stretch of games due to the seriousness of Egan’s setback – but it looks like he will also be set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

“He’s out and will be out for a while,” Heckingbottom said of Egan. “It’s another big injury for us. He’s going to be seeing the specialist tomorrow and we will have more of an idea. It’s a blow, I can’t deny that. We want everyone fit. That’s an opportunity for others.”
The Blades were rooted to the foot of the table heading into the clash with Fulham. But Heckingbottom was optimistic that the tide would soon turn. “The mood has been good – it’s been fine,” added Heckinbottom.
“I thought it was clear against West Ham with what he did well and what we need to do better. That’s been the sole focus this week – attack as a team and defend as a team. Fulham away is a tough game, but we want the points. We have had to work so hard to be here and get here, but we want to stay here. We will continue to work hard.”
