Tottenham's Yves Bissouma left his team with it all to do in the second half after getting sent off on the stroke of half-time against Luton.
The Ivorian was was given his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card for diving in first half stoppage time, having been booked for a foul earlier in the game. Fans on social media immediately layed into Bissouma, with one insisting his red card was "the most stupid thing" ever.
"Yves Bissouma has had a brilliant start to the season but that is the most stupid thing I've ever seen on a football pitch," one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "That is bonkers from Bissouma. Why would you risk doing that when you're already on a yellow?" a second said.

Fans also praised referee John Brooks for having the confidence to reach for a second yellow, particularly given the recent criticism both Premier League officials and VAR have received in the past week. "Fair play to the referee there," one supporter commented, "definitely the right decision to send Bissouma off and refs often bottle it in that position."
It capped off a frustrating half of football for Ange Postecoglou's side, who had struggled to break the deadlock against Rob Edwards' well-organised Luton team. Richarlison missed two easy chances in quick-succession inside the first 10 minutes, one of which was branded "one of the worst misses ever" by fans.

Luton came out swinging after the break and immediately missed a gilt-edged chance of their own, with Elijah Adebayo scuffing a tap-in at the back-post after getting on the end of a low-driven cross. Tottenham took full advantage of the miss by going 1-0 up a few minutes later, with summer signing Micky van de Ven stabbing home from close-range after James Maddison danced his way into the box from a short corner.

A win today would move Spurs top of the Premier League, though Manchester City will overtake them with a win over Arsenal tomorrow. Luton, meanwhile, are hoping to avoid their sixth defeat of the season.
Bissouma joined Tottenham from Brighton in 2022, but struggled for game-time under Antonio Conte. He has, however, been an ever-present under Postecoglou in the league this season, forming a strong midfield partnership with Maddison and Pape Sarr.
