Borussia Dortmund’s 15-year-old dubbed ‘new Messi’ after earning £10m deal

Youssoufa Moukoko has been backed to become the next footballer megastar by following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The 15-year-old Borussia Dortmund striker has forced his way up the ranks with the Bundesliga club and is now a regular scorer for the club’s Under-19 side.

Despite being one of the youngest players in the U19-Bundesliga West, Moukoko has scored 22 goals in just 14 games and grabbed eight assists in the process.

The Cameroon born prospect signed a deal worth to be £10m with manufacturer Nike last year, and has trained with Lucien Favre’s first-team squad this season.

The Sunday Express have now backed Moukoko to be the air to the crown of either Ronaldo or Messi, which is high praise for a player that was only born in 2004.

The striker notched 46 goals in 25 games at Under 17 level in the 2018/19 season two years after making history by scoring two goals for the same team when he was 12.

"Youssoufa has now reached the age in which he is allowed to play in the U19 team," Dortmund youth chief Lars Ricken told Bild earlier in the season.

"We see this as the right year for him to play in this age group, which corresponds to his performance.

“He's scored a lot of goals, is very inquisitive, hungry for success, hardworking and always comes with a smile that distinguishes him. That’s what we look at. The tools are there."

He then added: “We are staying calm for now and don’t forget that when we judge his performances.

"Just because he's scored a lot of goals at youth level does not guarantee he will become a professional."

Moukoko already has high hopes for his career after such a promising start at youth level, and suggested that leaving Dortmund is not something he plans to do soon.

The striker then said: “My goal is to become a professional with Dortmund, win the Champions League with Borussia and win the Ballon d’Or.

“I feel very well at BVB and have goals with BVB.”

First-team boss Favre said earlier this season that he had been watching Moukoko for some time, but current regulations mean he is not able to feature for the first team in the Bundesliga.

All 36 clubs from the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga will vote in March whether players under the age of 17 should be allowed to feature.

Former Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin currently holds the youngest player record having featured at 16 years and 335 days, but he had special dispensation from league chiefs.
