Pascal Gross puts the exodus from Brighton to Chelsea down to cash but says money cannot buy happiness.

‘They have taken a lot of our players from us,’ Gross says ahead of Sunday’s grudge match at Stamford Bridge. ‘They have more money than us so they can do that but that doesn’t matter on the pitch.’

In August Chelsea bought Moises Caicedo for £115million, having signed Marc Cucerella the year before for £62m.

They paid £21.5m to take manager Graham Potter and his staff and lured sporting director Paul Winstanley.

Yet Chelsea go into Sunday’s game six points behind the visitors.

‘Brighton is a happy place,’ said the Seagulls star. ‘I don’t know about Chelsea, I concentrate on my club. Brighton is a good place to be. We are growing. We fight for each other. We have a lot of good people and great times ahead.’
