Bruno Fernandes cuts summer holiday short to train with former club in Portugal

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has cut his summer holiday short to build his fitness back up with former club Boavista.

Fernandes, 26, didn't enjoy a successful summer at Euro 2020, only being afforded 206 minutes of game time as Portugal crashed out against Belgium in the last 16.

The midfielder failed to register a single goal or assist at the tournament, coming as a major frustration after his impressive season with United.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer granted his star man an extended holiday due to his participation, but he has decided against putting his feet up ahead of pre-season.

Instead, Fernandes has returned to Boavista – whose youth team he played for from 2004 until 2012 – to regain his match sharpness ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Portuguese club shared a video on Instagram of their former academy star carrying out a series of drills and wrote the caption: "There is no love like the first.

Boavista later shared some photos of Fernandes going through the gears in training before presenting him with his own 'B.Fernandes 8' jersey.

The £67million ace is expected to leave Portugal and return to United shortly, but he will not be involved in their opening pre-season friendly against Wayne Rooney's Derby on Sunday.

Solskjaer's men get their summer schedule underway against the Rams, before further friendly outings come against Queens Park Rangers, Brentford, Preston and Everton.
