Ten Hag believes Man Utd are on the up ahead of Everton trip
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes humbled Alejandro Garnacho in the aftermath of the Red Devils’ 3-0 Premier League victory over Everton by insisting the Argentina international is “not a great player yet”. Garnacho scored an early goal of the season contender just three minutes into the showdown at Goodison Park as his sublime bicycle kick sailed past Jordan Pickford in the Toffees goal and into the back of the net.
“He’s a great player. Well he’s not a great player yet – he can be a great player”, Fernandes told Sky Sports after the match.
The Portugal international then added: “I give him a good nod for the goal. I have big expectations for him. He has a great future ahead and we expect a lot. I am always going to be behind him asking for more but yes, an amazing goal. A goal like this has to silence the crowd, Everton fans will not be happy about it but they enjoy to see it and players like him can do this. I am very happy to have him on my side.”
United visited Goodison Park in search of their fifth victory from six Premier League outings against a team who were smarting from their recent 10-point deduction following financial breaches. And the away side took the lead in an incredible manner as Garnacho leapt into the air and diverted Diogo Dalot’s cross beyond Pickford. The Red Devils then put the game to bed in the second half as Marcus Rashford struck from the penalty spot before Anthony Martial added a third goal late on.

After the match, Garnacho told Sky Sports: “I cannot believe it. To be honest I just turned around and thought ‘oh my god’. One of the best I have scored – I am happy.” And the 19-year-old even insisted the strike could win the goal of the season award. “Probably”, he added. “It is still November, but yes.”
United boss Erik ten Hag was also asked about the goal after the match. And the Dutchman explained: “Probably goal of the season. Also the build-up, not just the finish, was very good. The finish is fantastic.

“After the start of the game we were too easy-going. I criticised the team at half time. They thought they were already there. You can’t do that. You have to do 100 minutes on the pitch. Second half we did very well. Our three offensive players scored. That’s what we need. It will help us as a team.”
United’s latest victory means they have moved back above Newcastle and Brighton to occupy sixth place in the Premier League table. And the Red Devils are now, incredibly, just six points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
