Jamie Carragher has backed Diogo Jota to fill the breach at Liverpool this month, with both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Forward Jota is enjoying a superb season at Anfield, having broken up the club’s typical first-choice front three and scored 12 goals across all competitions.
He will become even more integral to Jurgen Klopp with two of his superstar team-mates absent, but Reds legend Carragher says he is more than capable of starring.

Questioned on the importance of Jota over the coming weeks, Carragher lavished praise on him, and even insisted he is ‘perfect’ for the Liverpool’s system.
Jota was handed another start in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg clash against Arsenal, with Roberto Firmino also recalled to the line-up.
Carragher said on Sky Sports: ‘He has been the guy that has broken up the front three. It shows how well he’s done. He’s been fantastic. He’s taken that central role.
Carragher labelled the forward ‘perfect’ and believes he has been ‘fantastic’ in his Anfield spell
Jota has scored 12 goals across all competitions this season and is a key player for Liverpool
‘A lot of people look at them at different times, Firmino was slightly different where he’d do a lot more work off the ball, whereas Jota’s more of a goal threat.
‘When he was signed it almost felt like a typical Liverpool signing. People said “Jota for Liverpool? He’s not a star at Wolves.”
‘But he’s perfect for how Liverpool play – the system, the energy, the pressing, and the actual goal threat.’
Pointing to Jota’s rising star, pundit Carragher also highlighted how boss Klopp has managed to improve a large part of his first-team squad since taking charge.
Carragher also singled out Jurgen Klopp for managing to improve many first-team players
‘Something that I don’t think we mention enough, certainly with Jurgen Klopp, is how many players improve once they get to Liverpool,’ he added.
‘What we’re seeing now is now what he was like when he first came, and that’s happened with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah.
‘You go right through Liverpool’s team, players improve under Jurgen Klopp and he is the perfect example.’
