Carvajal backs Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane to turn things around

‘We are to death with the coach’: Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal backs under-fire Zinedine Zidane to turn things around after alarming start to season as he urges fans ‘not to doubt us as we will fight for everything’

  • Real Madrid have endured a very alarming start to the 2020-21 campaign
  • The Spanish giants have faltered both in LaLiga and the Champions League
  • Zinedine ZIdane has come under intense scrutiny following poor performances
  • But Dani Carvajal has backed Zidane and Madrid to get season back on track

Dani Carvajal has issued a staunch defence of under-fire Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane and is adamant that his side will turn around their fortunes.

The Spanish giants have endured a very alarming start to the season, sitting fourth in LaLiga while only picking up four points from their opening three Champions League matches.

The scrutiny on Zidane became much worse on the weekend after Madrid’s harrowing 4-1 defeat away to Valencia, leaving them four points off the pace at the top of LaLiga.

But Carvajal, who has been out since the beginning of October with a knee ligament injury, has claimed that everyone within the squad is behind Zidane to turn things around.

Carvajal told Marca: ‘We are to death with the coach, with the club, with the team-mates that we have next to us and the philosophy of the coach is that we are all together, that we all go in the same direction and he has done so during all the years that he has been here.’

The Spanish right back went on to insist that everything is magnified when a club the size of Madrid do not win.

He added: ‘Whoever has been here for a few years gets used to it, in the end you can beat Inter in a highly contested match and lose to Valencia, against a good rival, away from home.

‘We didn’t have our day, but sometimes you can’t win every game and it seems like we’re in crisis. In the end you have to get a little used to these ups and downs, these ups and downs of feelings, criticism and flattery.’

Dani Carvajal is confident that Zidane and his team-mates can turn their fortunes around

Despite the slow start to the 2020-21 campaign, there is plenty of time for Madrid to get back on track and Carvajal is confident they will be in with a chance of winning every title come the end of the season.

‘We are Real Madrid, we have a very good squad and do not doubt us because we will fight for everything and in the month of March you will be happy because we will be alive in all competitions,’ Carvajal added.

Carvajal’s emphatic defence of Madrid comes after reports that Zidane is fighting to save his job after president Florentino Perez ‘expressed doubts about the Frenchman’.

Sport recently reported that club president Perez has major concerns, while Marca said the players were left baffled by his team selection at Valencia last weekend.

While Perez is expected to give Zidane some more time to turn things around, the Madrid hierarchy are not shy to pull the trigger when things aren’t going their way, and the boss himself will be well aware that things need to change quickly.

Carvajal believes Madrid will be fighting for every title come the end of the campaign

In the heavy defeat at Valencia, eyebrows were raised at Zidane’s starting line-up, without Ferland Mendy or Toni Kroos, and it has been reported that both the directors and the playing squad were confused by it.

Marcelo and Isco started at the Mestalla, and Marca wrote that the players have a lack of confidence in Zidane’s decision-making.

Zidane, who has won three Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles during two stints as Madrid boss, will be desperate to prove his doubters wrong after the international break.

Madrid take on Villarreal away in LaLiga on November 21 but they face a tough task against Unai Emery’s side, who sit second in the table.
