Cesc Fabregas has appointed himself as Como’s interim manager after Moreno Longo was sacked on the weekend.
The former Torino and Frosinone manager was sacked by the Serie B side after their victory over Ascoli on Saturday afternoon.
The Como board members were frustrated with their position in the table – sixth – and decided to axe Longo regardless of the result.
Shortly after Longo’s departure, the Italian club announced that Fabregas would be stepping in as their interim manager.
Fabregas – who had been coaching Como’s U19 side after becoming a part-owner in the club with Thierry Henry – took control of the first XI effective immediately.

Despite appointing himself as the club’s interim manager, it has been stated that the board will begin the process of searching for a ‘new head coach’.
Como announced the departure of Longo and shared their plans for hiring a new coach by sharing the following statement: ‘Como 1907 and Moreno Longo have parted company.
‘The search for a new Head Coach begins immediately with Cesc Fabregas and the current coaching staff taking over duties for the interim period.’
The decision will see Fabregas, who played for Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, Monaco and Como, take charge of his first senior side.
Fabregas threw himself into studying towards his UEFA coaching A license while also juggling the dying embers of his playing career with Como in Serie B.
Fabregas told Mail Sport it was a much-needed distraction as his desire to play dwindled towards the end of his career.
When announcing his retirement, Fabregas said: ‘It is with great sadness that the time has come for me to hang up my playing boots.
‘From lifting the World Cup, the Euros, to winning everything in England and Spain and nearly all the European trophies, it has been a journey that I’ll never forget.

‘After 20 incredible years full of sacrifice, dedication and joy, it’s time to say thank you and goodbye to the beautiful game.’
He went onto tell Mail Sport: ‘Obviously the love for the game never goes away but I was feeling that I didn’t have the same fire that I used to have before.
‘The training sessions, I wasn’t really enjoying them anymore and I always said the day that I wake up and I don’t feel the same way, the same passion going into the session, that you don’t enjoy the football, it was time to go and to try something else.
‘But I’m blessed and I’m happy that I found my passion very quickly.’
