Chelsea confident of completing Edouard Mendy transfer TODAY after breakthrough

Chelsea are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Edouard Mendy after submitting a fresh bid on Friday morning. The Blues have been busy this summer bringing in new recruits for Frank Lampard.

The Chelsea boss was unable to sign anyone during his first summer in charge due to a transfer ban while the January window didn’t present opportunities for the club to sign the kind of player they were looking for.

A lack of transfer meant Lampard gave more chances to the club’s youth prospects with players such as Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James all impressing.

That’s all changed this summer though with Chelsea spending over £200million on new recruits.

Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr have all joined Chelsea’s revolution.

But their spending isn’t going to stop there with a new goalkeeper a top priority.

Kepa Arrizabalaga struggled to impress Lampard last season and he was dropped for the crucial final game of the season against Wolves for veteran Willy Caballero.

Chelsea have prioritised other targets first but now it appears they have settled on a move for Rennes goalkeeper Mendy.

The 28-year-old impressed in Ligue 1 last season and Chelsea have stepped up their pursuit this week.

And according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have had a breakthrough in negotiations.

It is claimed that Chelsea have submitted a new bid and are confident it will be enough to convince Rennes to sell.

Personal terms are already said to be agreed, meaning a fee is all that needs to be settled on between the two clubs.

Mendy has made it clear to Rennes that he wants to move to Stamford Bridge.

And Chelsea’s spending may not end there either with interest in Declan Rice increasing.

West Ham have already indicated they will sell their young players for the right price after letting Grady Diangana leave the club.

However, the Hammers are reportedly demanding close to £80m for Rice.
