Chelsea fans are furious with Cristian Romero after the Tottenham Hotspur defender was sent off for a ‘leg breaker’ challenge.
A first-half crammed full of all-out chaos and controversial moments came to a head as Romero was sent off following a VAR review.
Chelsea would’ve thought the world was against them in the opening proceedings in North London after Romero avoided punishment for a petulant kick out at Levi Colwill and Destiny Udogie escaped a red card for a two-footed lunge at Raheem Sterling.

But justice finally caught up with the Argentine centre-back who was sent off for a tackle on Enzo Fernandez that fans on social media have called ‘a leg breaker’.
A frantic minute saw Moises Caicedo look to have put Chelsea level after Dejan Kulusevski’s effort deflected past Robert Sanchez after just six minutes. But Nicolas Jackson was adjudged to be marginally offside and interfering with play in the build-up.

After the goal was disallowed, a VAR check unearthed Romero’s terrible challenge which saw him follow through onto the shin of his compatriot. A red card was shown and Cole Palmer stepped up to level the scores from the spot.
The half soon unravelled for Spurs as Mickey Van de Ven was left on the turf in agony with a hamstring injury, and James Maddison was also substituted off before the break with an injury.
Chelsea grew on top as Jackson saw a goal chalked off for offside before a major flash point between Colwill and Pape Sarr sparked handbags and saw both players into the book as the fourth and five cards of the half.
Gary Neville on commentary quipped: “They better cancel the adverts at half time”, completely summing up the chaotic first half given the incredible amount of controversial moments an under-fire PGMOL had to deal with in the opening 45 as what remained of both sides entered the dressing room all square.
