German newspaper Bild have reported that Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich has released the funds for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland. The Blues are understood to be determined to land the 20-year-old Norwegian starlet this summer and are prepared to spend big.

To draw Haaland away from Dortmund would command a colossal fee, somewhere in the region of £150million, which Abramovich is reportedly willing to pay.

Haaland is currently one of the hottest and brightest prospects on the planet and has been in tantalising form for the German side.

Since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2019, he has amassed an incredible tally of 57 goals in just 59 appearances.

Signing Haaland this transfer window would make a real statement of intent from Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.

Wanting to build on their Champions League win, and top-four finish, the Blues have been very active in this summer’s transfer window.

They so far haven’t signed anyone, instead having had all their loanees return, however, they have been linked with the likes of Haaland, Antoine Greizmann and Achraf Hakimi.

Tuchel seems to want an overhaul of his squad this summer, with forwards Oliver Giroud and Tammy Abraham appearing to be surplus to requirements.

Previous Chelsea boss Frank Lampard spent around £222m last summer, yet Tuchel appears to have a treasure chest of his own to play around with this summer.

Dortmund will of course be reluctant to lose Haaland this summer especially after losing another big name in Jadon Sancho to Manchester United earlier this window.

However, Haaland’s release clause triggers next year, so to avoid losing him for a fraction of the price in a year’s time, they may be well advised to start listening to offers.

Timo Werner was one of several big names signed by Chelsea last summer, and he fell short throughout a disappointing season.

The introduction of Haaland could revitalise the German, and Chelsea could subsequently boast a devastating strike force next season.

Haaland is strong, powerful and quick. He asserts a dominant presence in the opponent’s box and is a deadly aerial threat.

If Tuchel does sign the player this transfer window, with the potential loan of Greizmann as well, Chelsea will be a real force in the Premier League, and certainly title contenders.

It all depends on Abramovich’s willingness to depart with such a mammoth fee, however, what has been reported seems only positive news for Blues fans.
