Chelsea target Edouard Mendy is expected in London for his medical this weekend after a breakthrough in talks yesterday.
Senegal goalkeeper Mendy did not train on Friday morning after meeting with Rennes bosses to agree his exit.
And later in the day a deal was thrashed out with the French club accepting a fee which could rise to around £25m with add-ons for the 28-year-old.
Mendy has already agreed personal terms with the Blues and is set to become the club’s eighth signing of their most expensive summer ever.
He will also be following in the footsteps of club icon Petr Cech, who made the same move from Rennes to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2004.
Cech is now Chelsea's technical director and has been instrumental in doing the deal.
Chelsea, who face Brighton on Monday night, failed to make any headway with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.
They also considered Ajax keeper Andre Onana and Nick Pope at Burnley.
But when Lille quoted them £32m for Mike Maignon, they turned to Mendy as a cheaper alternative.

Mendy queued at a job centre five years ago after having his contract with a French lower league club Cherbourg terminated.
But he is now coming to Chelsea as competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was signed for £71m, a world record for a keeper, in 2018.
Chelsea will now turn their attention to moving players on, with Olivier Giroud wanted by Juventus.
The France striker has held talks with the Italian giants but it’s understood he is willing to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.
