Chelsea to block Jorginho from making Deadline Day switch to Arsenal

Jorginho is not expected to make the switch across London today from Chelsea to Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a new midfielder before the window shuts at 11pm tonight.

Matteo Guendouzi is leaving the Gunners on loan for Hertha Berlin, while Lucas Torreira is having a medical at Atletico Madrid.

Houssem Aouar was ruled out over the weekend as he is staying at Lyon for at least the 2020/21 season.

Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey may prove out of reach financially.

And as a result, Italy international Jorginho is another option on their list.

Business between the two London rivals has been fairly regular in recent years, with the likes of Olivier Giroud and David Luiz moving between the two teams.

However, according to The Athletic , the Gunners won’t be able to prise Jorginho away from Chelsea.

The 28-year-old has interest from Arsenal and Frank Lampard has been seeking a replacement for the midfielder in the form of West Ham star Declan Rice.

But no return for the Chelsea academy product is on the cards today, and Jorginho won’t be allowed to go.

Letting him leave for Arsenal too is seen as strengthening a direct rival, which the Blues are reluctant to do as well.

It is likely Arsenal will ultimately miss out on adding a midfielder to their ranks in time.

The Gunners have had a solid window beyond that, especially after bringing in defender Gabriel Magalhaes and keeping Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Arsenal have won three of their four Premier League games so far this season and will be put to the test by Manchester City after the international break as they travel to the Etihad on Saturday, October 17 (5.30pm).
