Chelsea boss Frank Lampard wants to make one last push for Declan Rice, which could pave the way for Jorginho to join Arsenal.
Lampard has identified Rice as a top transfer target in the summer window, yet West Ham reportedly value the 21-year-old at a staggering £73million.
The Blues must therefore stump up a huge bid to prise him away from their London rivals before next week’s transfer deadline.
Having already spent close to £230million this summer, though, Lampard may be forced to cash in on players before submitting an offer for Rice.
One star who could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge is Jorginho, with Arsenal reportedly eyeing up the Italy international amid their struggles to sign Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.
The latter has reportedly agreed to join Mikel Arteta’s side, but they are still falling way below Lyon’s £54million asking price.
As a result, Arsenal are understood to be considering a cheaper alternative in Jorginho, who could be available this summer as Chelsea look to balance their books.
Offloading him would allow Lampard to fund a move for Rice, and The Mirror claim he is determined to make one last push for the Hammers star.
Chelsea beat Manchester City to the signing of Jorginho when Arteta was Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager and the Spaniard remains a huge admirer.
When asked about Arsenal’s interest in Jorginho, Arteta said: “We are still open to improve our team. We are looking for different options depending on what happens with some of our players here so we are getting prepared just in case we need to do something.”
Lampard hinted at potential exits for both Jorginho and outcasted defender Antonio Rudiger on Friday, saying at his pre-match press conference: “Every player would always be a case by case situation. One where there is a happy solution for myself, the player and the club.

“So yes we have a big squad, we know that but at the moment the players remain ours and we’ll see as time goes on.
“It’s not my position to speculate on what may be because it’s not my job. And it’s the same for players at other clubs. We have a game against West Brom and my biggest thing is getting the squad ready for that game.”
